Driven: 2011 Ford Fiesta

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

For over a year, Europeans have been driving Ford’s new Fiesta and falling in love with it. The car became the best-selling vehicle across the continent in the first quarter of 2010 and all signs point to it continuing that streak for the remainder of the year. This makes the Fiesta something like Europe’s version of the Ford F-150, the best-selling vehicle in America.

All-New 6.7L Power Stroke® V8 Turbo Diesel

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

FoMoCo has announced the official specs on its 2011 Ford Super Duty pickup and will start marketing the truck as the “most capable, fuel-efficient” heavy-duty on the market staring in April.

“Our Super Duty customers do some of America’s toughest jobs,” said Mark Fields, Ford president of The Americas. “Every day they’re out there working with little fanfare and all they ask is the right tool for the job. The new 2011 Super Duty offers them a truck with best-in-class towing and payload, all-new powertrains and even more capability than ever to help them do their jobs.”

With that in mind, let’s get right into the specs. The Ford 2011 Ford Super Duty lineup will start with the 6.2L V8 engine making 385-hp and 405 lb-ft of torque — that’s 85 more horses and 40 pounds-foot of more torque than the current 5.4L V8 gas engine – combined with class-leading fuel economy and E85 compatibility.

But the big news here is Ford’s all-new 6.7L Power Stroke V8 turbocharged diesel making 390-hp and a whopping 735 lb-ft of torque, which Ford says helps it make the Super Duty offer “class leading” fuel-economy.

That’s not the only area where the 2011 Ford Super Duty is class-leading. FoMoCo says that the all-new powertrains help the F-Series Super Duty offer a class-leading towing capability of 24,400 pounds and best-in-class payload capability of 6,520 pounds.

Ford Flexible Fuel Vehicles

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Ford Motor Company made a pledge to double to number of 2006 flexible fuel vehicles produced for its 2010 model year vehicles in the U.S. The Company is now delivering on that promise. Flexible-fuel vehicles have the capacity to run on E-85, which is 85 percent ethanol mixed with 15 percent gas. The number to be produced for the 2010 model year vehicles is based on the 2006 final production amount of 185,000 vehicles.

The flexible fuel vehicles include the Ford Escape, F-150, Expedition, E-Series, Crown Victoria and Fusion; plus the Lincoln Town Car and Navigator; and the Mercury Grand Marquis, Mariner and Milan.

Sue Cischke, Ford’s group vice president stated, “Flexible-fuel vehicles are a great alternative for our customers because they provide owners with the option to choose between using E-85 and gasoline when filling up a car. Ethanol and other biofuels also help reduce the country’s dependence on imported oil.”

Depending on incentives that encourage the manufacturing, availability and distribution of renewable fuels, Ford plans to grow the flexible fuel vehicle production by 50 percent for the 2012 model year vehicles. The major car manufacturer also plans to create vehicles that can run on renewable fuels like biodiesel and E-85 ethanol. The “Super Duty” which is a 2011 model is available with two bio fuel options, including a diesel engine operating on B-20 biodiesel and a conventional engine operating on E-85.

“Flexible-fuel vehicles are one of the many environmental technologies Ford is providing customers,” continued Cischke. “In addition to biofuels, we also are working on a range of other advanced fuel efficient technologies, including EcoBoost engines, six speed transmissions, clean diesel and electrified vehicles.”
